I’ll be honest here like the reasons why a lot of more modern pc horror games aren’t really scary to me at this point is that a majority of them are illogical, which takes away some of the immersion for me. Like nothing is more scary to me than a logical situation with hopeless circumstances, knowing that whatever you do will all be in vain, that you can’t just get up and leave because why the fuck would you be doing this, blah blah.
The issue with these games is that they rely too heavily on jumpscares (which don’t get me wrong are cheap and effective but alone should not make a game) and youtube publicity from screaming lpers instead of story, which, to me, really hurts the game in terms of how scared I walk away from it. Was I startled for a portion of gameplay? Sure. Do I wanna keep the lights on at night? Nah, I’m good.
Like with enough exposure of these shock-factors the effect wears off very quickly and not only have you made me bored and uninterested, but you lost a lot of the purpose that the genre specializes in imo
